His Excellency Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha

The Executive Governor of Imo State

Sir,

An Open Letter Requesting Amnesty and Independence Day Pardon for Inmates

We, the members of Center for Innovative Pragmatic and Development initiative (CIPDI), wish to bring to your attention the plight and sufferings of some inmates, who are currently languishing in Owerri Prison. Some of these inmates had been locked up for more than five years without judgement of any sort. Some of these inmates have served terms beyond what they would normally serve, if they had been tried and sentenced accordingly. Some of them have been locked up awaiting trial for minor offenses, for more than five years.

Sir, we crave your indulgence and plead with you, as the Executive Governor of Imo State, to use your good office to grant clemency and pardon, to those Prisoners who committed minor offenses, and had been in prison for more than five years without any sort of judgement. On this 59th Independence anniversary of Nigeria, we ask that you show mercy by setting free the many prisoners that have spent over five years, awaiting trial for minor offenses in Owerri prison.

Sir, these acts of kindness and mercy from you, will not only decongest the Owerri prison which is already overcrowded, but will also promote cleanliness, healthy living and add value to the economy and progress of Imo state.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. GOD bless Imo state, GOD bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and GOD bless the Executive Governor of Imo state His Excellency Emeka Ihedioha.

Yours faithfully,

Ifeanyichukwu Nwanoro

President and Global Coordinator CIPDI
